TINY IN A BIG WAY
Why Tiny?
“In 2021, Homes for Hearts kicked off Memphis’ Tiny Home Revolution, thanks to Dwayne A. Jones Construction Company and Room in the Inn – Memphis! The Memphis based nonprofit built the tiniest home permitted in Shelby County, at 280 sf for a Veteran that had been experiencing homelessness for over a decade.
In 2024, Tiny Homes are beginning to pop up all around our city. Our builder alone is currently constructing 14. Other Memphis nonprofits are now promoting transitional studio homes as solutions to ending homelessness, and while technically tiny homes are referred to homes under 400 sf, some Memphis nonprofits are beginning to build small, 600 sf homes as a solution to the affordable housing crisis, and that’s pretty tiny!
These homes are extremely habitable and provide all of the amenities one needs to live comfortably, and even small families within the 2bd, 2ba, 600 sf builds. Memphis, we are so grateful to every single person that is coming together to be a part of this solution for our city, and everyone that gave to Homes for Hearts, and our sister organization, A Lee Dog Story beginning in 2018, when this was merely a concept.
We estimate our city to have hundreds of new houses under 700 sf by 2030. With the help of 3D printing technology approval and builders in Shelby County, Memphis could build thousands over the coming years.
And, with your help, Homes for Hearts can continue to be a part of this housing revolution in Memphis, TN. Homesforhearts.org “
